The Palestinian movement Hamas announced on Saturday that it has officially submitted its response to the latest ceasefire proposal put forward by U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff. The proposal aims to secure a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensure the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces, and facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid into the besieged territory.
In a brief statement, Hamas confirmed that the response was delivered to international mediators following a series of internal consultations. “Driven by our national responsibility toward our people and their suffering, Hamas has submitted its reply to the proposal that ensures a lasting ceasefire, full Israeli withdrawal, and unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza,” the statement read.
The U.S. envoy had previously expressed urgency in reaching an agreement, warning that opportunities for Hamas to engage in a diplomatic resolution are diminishing. “Their window is closing,” Witkoff said earlier this week, describing the group’s stance as a major obstacle to progress.
The development comes amid mounting international pressure to end the months-long conflict, which has resulted in severe humanitarian consequences across Gaza. Aid organizations continue to warn of a deepening crisis, with essential supplies running low and infrastructure on the brink of collapse.
Negotiations remain ongoing, with mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and the United Nations working to bridge the remaining gaps between the warring parties.
