The International Criminal Court (ICC) may open an investigation into transitional Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara, following events in the coastal region and other areas of the country.
The case file includes video evidence documenting massacres that resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians from various Syrian minorities.
The “French-Alawite Coalition,” comprising figures from different Syrian sects, filed a complaint with the ICC targeting al-Shara for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
It is up to the ICC prosecutor to decide whether to pursue or close the case amid allegations against al-Shara, who assumed power after Bashar al-Assad’s regime fell in December following the armed opposition’s takeover of Damascus.
