Japanese Parliament Re-elects Ishiba as Prime Minister After Ruling Coalition Loss

The Japanese parliament elected Shigeru Ishiba as Prime Minister again on Monday, following a significant loss for his ruling coalition in the October 27 elections.
The Liberal Democratic Party and its smaller coalition partner, “Komeito,” lost their majority in the House of Representatives due to public anger over financial issues.
In the special session to select the Prime Minister, Ishiba received 221 votes compared to 160 for opposition leader Yoshihiko Noda.
The new government is preparing to participate in the APEC summit and the G20 summit, as well as a potential meeting with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
