Libya’s House of Representatives convened on Monday in Benghazi to begin hearings for candidates vying to form a new government, amid efforts to steer the country through its transitional phase and toward national elections.
The session, held at the Parliament’s headquarters, was chaired by Speaker Aguila Saleh and attended by First Deputy Speaker Fawzi Al-Nuwairi.
Parliament spokesperson Abdullah Bliheg said the session was dedicated to reviewing the visions and policy proposals presented by the candidates, as part of ongoing efforts to establish a government capable of managing the current stage and preparing for electoral milestones.
According to parliamentary sources, more than 60 lawmakers attended the session, securing the quorum required for its official convening.
The same sources revealed that only two of the 14 candidates had fully completed their application files. Nevertheless, all candidates were permitted to present their programs to the assembly, despite some having incomplete documentation.
