Libya’s Acting Interior Minister Imad Trabelsi and Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah announced on Tuesday a joint plan to dismantle all armed groups across the country and integrate their members into official state security institutions, as part of broader efforts to restore order and unify national forces.
Speaking at a press briefing, Trabelsi called for the dissolution of all armed formations regardless of their names or affiliations. He expressed his readiness to disband his own affiliated forces—namely the General Security Directorate and the Directorate Support Forces—within 30 minutes, provided that the same applies to all other non-state security entities.
Prime Minister Dbeibah echoed the position, stating that the Government of National Unity is prepared to dismantle any armed factions or militias and integrate their personnel into the Ministries of Interior and Defense. He stressed that any security body not officially operating under these two ministries will be formally disbanded.
The announcement comes amid ongoing national efforts to curb the influence of armed groups and reestablish centralized authority over Libya’s fragmented security landscape. The move is seen as a step toward long-term political stability and institutional reform, supported by both domestic stakeholders and international partners.
