Libya’s Dbeibah Rejects Parallel Public Spending as Tensions Persist in Tripoli

Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dbeibah, on Monday voiced strong opposition to the creation of parallel public spending mechanisms, following a move by the House of Representatives to allocate a separate budget for the state-affiliated “Development and Reconstruction Fund.”

Dbeibah made the remarks during a meeting with members of the High Council of State, according to a statement published by the government’s official “Hakomitna” platform on Facebook.

The prime minister emphasized that any attempt to establish alternative financial channels undermines national efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and the unification of Libya’s institutions. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring stability and advancing state cohesion.

The discussions also addressed the current political and economic developments, amid heightened tensions in Tripoli. The capital has recently witnessed armed clashes between forces aligned with the unity government and rival militias, as well as a wave of demonstrations both supporting and opposing the government.

Dbeibah’s comments come at a time when Libya remains politically divided, and international pressure continues to mount for a unified government and the holding of long-delayed national elections.
