A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck southern Mexico in the early hours of Monday, according to the country’s National Seismological Service, with no casualties or damage reported so far.
The quake was recorded at 2:28 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located 28 kilometers southwest of Acala in the state of Chiapas. The tremor originated at a depth of 269 kilometers, the agency said.
Authorities confirmed that there were no reports of injuries, fatalities, or structural damage, while emergency teams remain on alert and are continuing to monitor the situation.
Mexico lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it highly prone to seismic activity.
