At least 19 people, including five children, were killed and eight others injured in a fatal road accident on Tuesday in Nigeria’s Kogi State. The incident occurred when a speeding passenger bus collided with a moving truck along the Lokoja–Obajana highway.
In an official statement, Kumar Tsukwam, the Director of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi, confirmed that the crash was caused by excessive speeding. The impact resulted in severe casualties and extensive vehicle damage.
Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene to transport the injured to nearby hospitals and recover the bodies of the deceased, which have been taken to the local morgue.
Authorities in the state have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, aiming to determine the exact cause and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Officials have reiterated calls for motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and avoid speeding, stressing that compliance is critical to reducing fatal accidents on Nigerian highways.
