PKK Announces Self-Dissolution, Ends Armed Conflict with Turkey

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) announced on Monday that it has decided to dissolve itself and end its armed conflict with Turkey, declaring that it has “fulfilled its historical mission.”

The announcement was made through a PKK-affiliated news agency, which emphasized the need to “redefine” Kurdish-Turkish relations. The PKK stated that Kurdish political parties are now expected to take responsibility for advancing Kurdish democracy and ensuring the establishment of a democratic Kurdish nation.

The decision was made during a conference held from May 5 to 7 in two locations in northern Iraq, according to media reports. The PKK further stated that the “historic” decisions made at the conference would be officially announced in the coming days.
