Armed clashes erupted on Friday morning—the first day of Eid al-Adha—between rival militias in the Dababsheh area of Sabratha, western Libya, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, according to local reports.
The fighting, involving medium and heavy weaponry, caused panic among civilians. The Libyan Red Crescent declared a state of emergency and appealed for the establishment of safe corridors to evacuate the wounded and families trapped by the violence.
Roads leading to the city center were completely closed, amid growing public calls for urgent intervention by security forces to stop the fighting.
This latest violence follows intense armed confrontations on Thursday, which also left casualties in what has been described as one of the city’s fiercest escalations in recent months.
