Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan announced on Saturday that the Kingdom will be among the leading countries supporting Syria’s reconstruction and economic recovery efforts. His remarks came during an official visit to Damascus, where he led a high-level Saudi economic delegation.
During the visit, Prince Faisal met with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara’ in what marked a significant diplomatic engagement. He also visited the historic Umayyad Mosque alongside Syrian Foreign Minister Nabil Al-Shibani, where both performed prayers.
The Saudi foreign minister affirmed that both Saudi Arabia and Qatar will jointly provide financial assistance to support Syria’s public sector employees. Additionally, the two Gulf nations have settled Syria’s outstanding debt to the World Bank, estimated at approximately $15 million.
President Al-Shara’s meeting with the Saudi delegation marked his first foreign engagement since taking office, underlining renewed regional interest in reintegrating Syria into broader Arab political and economic frameworks.
The visit signals a continued thaw in regional relations with Damascus and a shift toward reconstruction-focused diplomacy in the wake of over a decade of conflict.
