Saudi Arabia to Restrict Resident Entry to Mecca Starting Wednesday as Part of Hajj Preparations

Saudi authorities will begin implementing strict entry regulations for residents seeking to enter Mecca starting Wednesday, as part of comprehensive security and logistical measures in preparation for the 1446 Hijri Hajj season.

Saudi channel Al Ekhbariya, via the “X” platform, stated:
“Starting tomorrow (Wednesday), residents will only be allowed to enter the Holy Capital (Mecca) if they possess a valid work permit, a residency ID issued from Mecca, or a valid Hajj permit.”

This move is part of a broader plan by the Ministry of Interior to enhance security and regulate the movement of people into the Holy City, ensuring a safe and orderly environment for pilgrims during the upcoming season.

The ministry had earlier announced, in a statement dated April 13, that these restrictions would be strictly enforced to facilitate smooth field operations and prevent unnecessary overcrowding in the city ahead of Hajj.

Every year, the Kingdom intensifies entry regulations to Mecca during Hajj due to the mass influx of millions of pilgrims from both inside and outside the country. These measures are essential to ensure public safety, streamline logistics, and uphold the sanctity of the pilgrimage season.
