U.S. President Donald Trump arrived Tuesday morning in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, marking the start of a multi-day Gulf tour that will also include Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The visit aims to strengthen economic cooperation and secure trade agreements with Washington’s key regional partners, despite limited expectations for breakthroughs on the region’s most complex political issues.
Air Force One touched down at King Khalid International Airport at 9:50 a.m. local time (06:50 GMT), accompanied by Saudi F-15 fighter jets as it entered the kingdom’s airspace.
Trump was welcomed on the tarmac by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who escorted him through the official reception ceremony.
The visit is part of an intense diplomatic push by the U.S. administration to reaffirm economic ties and discuss pressing regional security matters. However, expectations remain cautious regarding any tangible progress on thorny issues such as Iran’s nuclear file, and the ongoing conflicts in Yemen and Syria.
