U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza is “very close,” signaling that an announcement could come as soon as later today or Saturday.
Speaking during a press conference at the White House, Trump stated, “They are very close to an agreement on Gaza. We’ll update you later today or maybe tomorrow. There’s a real chance we can reach a deal,” according to remarks reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Trump did not specify which parties are involved in the near-finalized agreement. However, previous White House statements confirmed that the U.S. has been engaged in direct negotiations with Hamas, while Israel recently expressed support for a proposed ceasefire plan.
The comments come amid intensified diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in Gaza, which has now dragged on for more than 600 days, causing extensive destruction and a dire humanitarian crisis. International actors have been urging both sides to agree to a truce and pave the way for reconstruction and long-term peace.
