UNRWA: Over 50,000 Children Killed or Injured in Gaza in Past 20 Months

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has announced that more than 50,000 children have been killed or injured in the Gaza Strip over the past 20 months, marking one of the deadliest tolls on children in modern conflict.

UNRWA emphasized that civilians, including children, humanitarian workers, medical staff, and journalists, continue to be killed and injured daily in Gaza, amid ongoing airstrikes and intense fighting.

The statement follows a warning by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in which Edward Begbeder, UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, expressed grave concern over the unprecedented suffering of children in Gaza. He confirmed that more than 50,000 children have been killed or wounded since October 2023.
