Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday reiterated his proposal to host a high-level peace summit in Turkey involving Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Speaking after a second round of talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul, Erdogan said: “My ultimate hope is to bring together Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky in Istanbul or Ankara—and even have Donald Trump join them, if they agree. I would also attend, to make Istanbul a center for peace.”
The Turkish leader emphasized his country’s ongoing commitment to facilitating dialogue and playing an active mediating role in efforts to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, now in its third year.
Erdogan’s renewed call comes amid mounting international efforts to advance a negotiated settlement and de-escalate tensions, with Turkey positioning itself as a neutral venue for potential high-stakes diplomacy.
