The European Union on Friday imposed a record fine of €2.95 billion ($3.47 billion) on U.S. tech giant Google, accusing the company of abusing its market dominance by prioritizing its own advertising services over competitors.
The European Commission said Google had distorted competition within the bloc’s 27-member single market, engaging in practices deemed unfair and restrictive.
The ruling comes despite warnings from U.S. President Donald Trump, who criticized Europe for “unfairly targeting” major American technology firms.
Google has vowed to appeal the decision in European courts, insisting its business model complies with competition law.
