Europe Unleashes ‘Jupiter’ Supercomputer, Igniting AI Race with Billion-Billion Operations Per Second

In a historic step to enhance its technological capabilities, Europe inaugurated its first “Exascale” supercomputer, named “Jupiter,” at the Jülich Research Centre in Germany.

This device, which is the fourth fastest computer in the world, is capable of performing a billion billion calculations per second, representing a qualitative leap for the continent.

During the inauguration, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on Europe to compensate for its delay in the global artificial intelligence race, affirming that “Germany and Europe have every opportunity to catch up” with the United States and China.

The project, which costs 500 million euros, is a joint investment between the European Union and Germany, and will provide researchers in various fields with enormous computing capabilities.
