European Parliament Condemns Iranian Regime Over Crackdown on Protests

The European Parliament approved a resolution on Thursday condemning the Iranian regime for its handling of the ongoing protests in the country.

The vote in the plenary session saw 562 MEPs in favor, 9 against, and 57 abstentions.

Lawmakers expressed concern that “the killing of thousands of protesters marks a troubling shift in the Iranian regime’s approach to suppressing dissent.”

The resolution calls for the “immediate and unconditional release” of all detained protesters, human rights defenders, and journalists, and urges the European Council to act swiftly to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist organization.”
