Official sources from Pakistan and Afghanistan confirmed heavy exchanges of gunfire between the two sides in the Spin Boldak–Chaman border area late Friday, with no casualties reported.

The Taliban accused Pakistani forces of carrying out attacks inside Kandahar, while Islamabad said Afghan forces initiated “unprovoked” fire.

The tensions follow the failure of recent peace talks in Saudi Arabia, despite both sides expressing commitment to a fragile ceasefire.

The border has witnessed recurrent clashes since deadly confrontations erupted last October.
