A powerful explosion struck the city of Al-Bukamal in eastern Deir ez-Zor province on Sunday, with its cause still unclear.

Local sources said the blast occurred near a warehouse used by foreign-backed militias and was likely caused by a drone strike.

The incident comes amid rising security tensions along the Syrian–Iraqi border, which has recently seen sporadic airstrikes of unknown origin.
