The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Sunday that it will lift restrictions on flights that were imposed during the government shutdown to address a shortage of air traffic controllers, effective Monday.
The FAA said in a statement that “the suspension of the order means the resumption of normal operations across the country’s airspace” starting at 6:00 a.m. Washington time (10:00 GMT).
On November 7, the Trump administration had instructed airlines to reduce flights by 10% at 40 of the nation’s busiest airports due to a shortage of air traffic controllers, who were required to work without pay during the government shutdown.
Thousands of flights were canceled before the restrictions were gradually eased.
