FIFA Confirms Iran Will Play 2026 World Cup Matches in the United States

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced on Friday that FIFA has decided Iran will play its 2026 World Cup matches in the United States as originally planned.

Speaking at a press conference at the National Palace in Mexico City, Sheinbaum said relocating Iran’s matches would require major logistical changes, which are no longer feasible just two months before the tournament begins.

Iran’s ambassador to Mexico, Abolfazl Besandideh, had earlier criticized what he described as a lack of cooperation from the U.S. government regarding visas and logistical support for the Iranian national team.

He proposed moving Iran’s matches to Mexico due to the challenges associated with entering the United States.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Football Federation has been in talks with FIFA since mid-March to explore relocating its Group G matches, amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
