The United States has deployed 16 warships and up to 40,000 troops in the Middle East, along with hundreds of aircraft, the Financial Times reported, amid heightened regional tensions.
The newspaper said the U.S. had about five combat air wings in the region, each comprising around 70 aircraft stationed at bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
It added that Washington reinforced those forces with two additional air wings deployed aboard the aircraft carriers Abraham Lincoln and Gerald Ford.
Citing data from Tel Aviv University, the report said there were at least 66 U.S. aircraft at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, including 18 F-35 jets, 17 F-15s and eight A-10 aircraft, as well as electronic warfare and transport planes.
The U.S. Defense Department did not immediately comment on the report.
