The first round of talks between mediators and the Palestinian group Hamas in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh concluded late Monday night, with participants describing the atmosphere as “positive,” Egypt’s Cairo News channel reported.
The indirect negotiations, aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza, are expected to resume on Tuesday as part of discussions centered on a plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to halt the conflict.
Sources within Hamas said the opening session, which included mediators from Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey, resulted in the establishment of a “roadmap for the current round of negotiations and its timeline.” The upcoming sessions are expected to focus on humanitarian exchanges and post-ceasefire arrangements, the sources added.
