Fitch Downgrades France’s Credit Rating to A+ Amid Political Turmoil

U.S. credit rating agency Fitch on Saturday downgraded France’s sovereign credit rating to A+ with a stable outlook, citing ongoing political turmoil and uncertainty surrounding the country’s budget.

Fitch said the recent collapse of the French government in a parliamentary confidence vote highlighted growing fragmentation and polarization in domestic politics, warning that instability is undermining France’s ability to implement the fiscal consolidation needed to rein in its rising deficit, according to AFP.

The downgrade comes as France faces pressure to reassure markets and investors about its fiscal and political stability.
