Flood Death Toll Rises to 87 in Thailand and 174 in Indonesia

A government statement on Friday reported that the death toll from floods in southern Thailand has risen to 87.

In Indonesia, the disaster management agency said that the number of fatalities from floods and landslides on the island of Sumatra has risen to 174, up from 94 earlier estimates, with dozens still reported missing.

On Wednesday, Thailand launched an air bridge to evacuate patients and sent vital supplies, including oxygen cylinders, to a city submerged by floodwaters, as one of the worst floods to hit the region in years continued to take a toll.

The floods affected nine provinces in Thailand and eight states in neighboring Malaysia for the second consecutive year, forcing authorities to evacuate around 50,000 people from high-risk areas.
