Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy Released from Prison After 20 Days

The Paris Court of Appeal on Monday ordered the conditional release of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, after he spent 20 days in prison following a five-year sentence issued against him in the “Libya financing case.”

According to French media, the Prosecutor’s Office requested during the hearing that Sarkozy be placed under judicial supervision as part of the release conditions.

Sarkozy had previously been convicted of forming a criminal organization in connection with alleged Libyan funding for his 2007 presidential campaign, following an investigation that lasted more than ten years. The former president has consistently denied all allegations.
