A man was shot and killed by French police on Tuesday after stabbing four people in a knife attack in the center of Marseille, in the south of the country.

The assault occurred on a street near the Old Port area before police quickly intervened, shooting the attacker and killing him.

The motive for the attack and the condition of the injured are not yet clear, while security authorities have cordoned off the area and begun their investigation.
