France: Macron Appoints New Government Led by Sébastien Lecornu

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday the formation of a new government led by Sébastien Lecornu, in an effort to end the ongoing political crisis that has gripped France for months.

The appointment comes a month after Lecornu was tasked with forming the new cabinet, making him the seventh prime minister to serve under Macron. The new government faces a deeply divided parliament, where opposition parties are pushing to bring it down despite Lecornu’s attempts to build cross-party support.

Several former ministers have returned to the cabinet, including Bruno Le Maire, who moved from the Economy Ministry to head the Defense Ministry, while Roland Lescure was appointed Minister of Economy to oversee the preparation of a challenging new budget. Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau both retained their posts, with Retailleau reaffirming his commitment to combating irregular migration.
