French lawmakers failed on Friday to reach a consensus on the 2026 budget, raising the likelihood of resorting to emergency legislation to extend spending limits until a full budget can be drafted.
Sources told Reuters that talks by a joint committee of representatives from both chambers collapsed in less than an hour, without agreement on a unified budget text.
Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said he would consult senior political leaders on Monday to determine next steps, adding that Parliament would not be able to vote on the budget before the end of the year.
