French Prime Minister Launches Urgent Talks to Form New Government

French Prime Minister-designate Sébastien Lecornu began a two-day series of talks on Tuesday with representatives from various political parties, in a final attempt to resolve the deepening political crisis in the country.

President Emmanuel Macron tasked Lecornu with conducting the discussions on Monday, setting a deadline until Wednesday evening to reach an agreement.

Lecornu is scheduled to meet with members of the conservative Republicans and the center-right Renaissance party, including Senate President Gérard Larcher and National Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet.

Lecornu submitted his resignation along with that of his newly formed government on Monday, just hours after its announcement, making it the shortest-lived administration in modern French history and intensifying the political deadlock.
