Georgia Forms International Team to Investigate Crash of Turkish Military Cargo Plane

Georgian Interior Minister Giga Geladze announced on Wednesday the formation of an international team to investigate the crash of a Turkish military cargo plane that went down on Tuesday in the Sighnaghi area of eastern Georgia. He said the team includes Turkish officials and is working in coordination with Ankara.

Geladze expressed his deep sorrow over the tragedy and offered condolences to the families of the victims.

Earlier on Wednesday, Turkey’s Defense Ministry confirmed that 20 service members were killed when a C-130 military transport aircraft crashed near the Azerbaijan–Georgia border while returning from Azerbaijan to Turkey.

The ministry added that Georgian search and rescue teams located the wreckage of the plane, noting that the cause of the crash will be determined after technical examinations by a specialized Turkish investigation team.
