Germany summoned the Russian ambassador on Thursday and informed him of its decision to expel a Russian diplomat suspected of involvement in an espionage case concerning a German-Ukrainian national arrested on Wednesday, German authorities announced.

In a statement posted on X, the German Foreign Ministry said: “The German government will not tolerate espionage in Germany, especially when carried out under the cover of diplomatic status.”

The ministry added: “Today we summoned the Russian ambassador and informed him of the expulsion of the individual concerned, who spied on behalf of Russia.”
