German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on Tuesday during a joint press conference in Berlin with Jordan’s King Abdullah II the launch of a humanitarian air bridge to the Gaza Strip in coordination with Jordan, confirming that the first airdrops will begin on Wednesday via two German Air Force A400M military aircraft departing from Jordan to deliver aid.
Merz described the initiative as “symbolic but necessary” amid the deteriorating humanitarian situation, emphasizing the importance of international coordination to alleviate the suffering of civilians in the region, especially as the hunger and malnutrition crisis threatens the lives of thousands, particularly women and children.
In the same context, Spain announced it would carry out an airdrop of 12 tons of food aid over Gaza this week, while the UAE continued its “Birds of Goodness” operations by executing its 55th airdrop on Monday over northern and central areas of the Strip in cooperation with Jordan.
The UAE also resumed land aid convoys on Sunday, including 38 trucks, 20 of which were loaded with pipes, tanks, and equipment to operate the new water pipeline extending from the UAE desalination plant in Egypt to the displacement areas between Rafah and Khan Younis, aiming to provide nearly 2 million gallons of water daily.
