Gold prices held steady on Friday but remained on track for a weekly loss as the U.S. dollar strengthened following President Donald Trump’s announcement of new tariffs on several countries.
Spot gold was unchanged at $3,289.79 per ounce, while prices have declined by 1.4% so far this week. U.S. gold futures slipped 0.3% to $3,340.20 per ounce.
The dollar index edged up 0.1%, hovering near a two-month high reached on Thursday. A stronger dollar typically makes gold more expensive for holders of other currencies, weighing on demand.
Among other precious metals, silver was flat at $37.10 per ounce. Platinum fell 0.3% to $1,308.85, while palladium gained 0.9% to $1,216.25 per ounce.
