Hamas announced Thursday evening that it has received a new proposal from international mediators regarding a potential ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal with Israel, and is currently reviewing the offer.

In an official statement, the group said its leadership had “received a new proposal from the mediators, presented by U.S. Middle East envoy Steven Weitzman,” adding that it is “studying the proposal responsibly, in a way that serves the interests of our people, alleviates their suffering, and leads to a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”

Hamas did not disclose further details of the proposal. The development comes amid renewed international mediation efforts, as the war in Gaza—ongoing since October 7, 2023—continues to inflict widespread devastation and humanitarian crisis across the enclave.
