ICC Arrests Libyan al-Hashri for Crimes Against Humanity

The International Criminal Court (ICC) confirmed today that German authorities have arrested Mohammed al-Hashri, a Libyan national wanted by the Court on charges of crimes against humanity committed during the Libyan conflict.

According to an official ICC statement, the arrest was carried out in cooperation with German judicial authorities under an international arrest warrant. The suspect is expected to be transferred to The Hague for trial in the near future.

Al-Hashri is accused of playing a central role in widespread arbitrary detention and torture in unofficial detention centers during years of conflict in Libya, as detailed in the ICC’s indictment.
