ICJ to Hear Landmark Case Accusing Myanmar of Genocide Against Rohingya

The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the United Nations’ top judicial body, is set to hear a landmark case on Monday accusing Myanmar of committing genocide against the Muslim Rohingya minority.

The case marks the first comprehensive genocide proceedings before the court in more than a decade and is expected to have far-reaching legal and political implications beyond Myanmar.

Observers say the ruling could influence other genocide-related cases before the ICJ, including South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel over the war in Gaza.

Myanmar has denied the genocide allegations, according to Reuters.
