Indian authorities reported on Saturday that nine people were killed and 32 others injured after a shipment of explosives detonated at a police station in Srinagar, in the Jammu and Kashmir region, on Friday evening.
According to officials, the fatalities included six police officers, forensic specialists, two civil administrative officials, and one civilian. Several of the injured were taken to hospital in critical condition, the Associated Press reported.
The powerful explosion sparked a fire at the police station and damaged several vehicles. Press Trust of India noted that a series of smaller secondary blasts hindered immediate rescue efforts.
