Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar confirmed that trade negotiations with the United States are continuing, highlighting New Delhi’s commitment to protecting its core trade interests amid rising U.S. tariffs.
The United States has imposed additional duties of up to 50% on Indian goods in response to India’s increased purchases of Russian oil. Currently, 25% of the tariffs are already in effect, with the remaining 25% scheduled to take effect on August 27.
Jaishankar stressed that India remains engaged in dialogue with Washington while defending its essential economic and trade priorities against punitive measures.
