The death toll from the fire that broke out in a nightclub in Arpora village in the Indian state of Goa has risen to 25, while six others were injured with varying degrees of burns.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant ordered a full judicial inquiry to determine the cause of the fire and identify any potential negligence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to the victims’ families, announcing compensation of 200,000 rupees for the families of the deceased and 50,000 rupees for the injured.
