Indonesia is preparing 1,000 troops for a possible deployment to Gaza by early April as part of a proposed multinational peacekeeping force, military spokesperson Donny Pramono said on Monday.
The final decision on whether to deploy the troops will be made by the government, he added, noting that the total number of soldiers ready for deployment would reach 8,000 by June.
Indonesia is the first country to announce a commitment to send forces to what has been described as a “Gaza Stabilisation Force,” part of a peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump for the conflict-hit region.
No further details were immediately available regarding the composition of the force or its legal mandate.
