CNN reported late Friday, citing three sources familiar with the latest U.S. intelligence assessments, that China is preparing to deliver a shipment of new air defense systems to Iran in the coming weeks.

The report said intelligence indicators suggest Beijing is working to route the shipments through third countries as intermediaries in order to conceal their origin.

The development comes amid heightened regional tensions, raising concerns over the potential impact of additional military support on the balance of power.
