International Divide Over Trump’s Proposed “Peace Council”

U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to form a “Peace Council” has sparked a wide international divide. Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Pakistan, and Argentina, announced their acceptance of the invitation to join, while China and European countries such as France, Germany, and Norway rejected the initiative.

These states expressed concerns that the council could undermine the role of the United Nations and grant it sweeping powers.

Russia said it is studying the proposal, amid growing debate over the future of the multilateral international system.
