Iran Assures Safe Passage in Hormuz, Links Halt of Attacks to Ceasefire

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be ensured for two weeks in coordination with Iran’s armed forces, adding that Tehran will halt its attacks if attacks against it cease.

Araghchi’s remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had agreed to suspend bombing and military operations against Iran for two weeks, describing it as a ceasefire from both sides.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the move is part of de-escalation efforts, noting that the United States has received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he described as a workable basis for negotiations.

He added that “most of the previous points of disagreement between the U.S. and Iran have been nearly resolved,” signaling significant progress toward a final agreement for lasting peace.

Meanwhile, Pakistan played a diplomatic role by proposing an extension of the deadline previously set for Iran, which was due to expire at midnight Tuesday-Wednesday GMT, in an effort to prevent a large-scale U.S. attack on Iranian infrastructure.

These developments indicate a potential shift toward conditional de-escalation, depending on both sides’ adherence to the emerging framework.
