Iran, EU Trio Agree to Resume Nuclear Talks at Deputy Foreign Minister Level

Iran and the three European signatories of the 2015 nuclear deal—Britain, France, and Germany—have agreed to resume nuclear negotiations at the deputy foreign minister level, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency citing an unnamed diplomatic source.

While both sides have committed to restarting talks, details regarding the date and venue of the next round remain under discussion.

The 2015 nuclear agreement, signed with the P5+1 countries (the U.S., UK, France, China, Russia, and Germany), aimed to curb Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the deal unraveled after the U.S. withdrew unilaterally in May 2018, reimposing sweeping sanctions on Tehran.
