Iran has recalled its ambassadors to the United Kingdom, France, and Germany for consultations after the three European powers activated a mechanism to reimpose United Nations sanctions on Tehran, state media reported Saturday.

“Following the irresponsible move by the three European countries to reactivate previously annulled UN Security Council resolutions, Iran has summoned its ambassadors in Germany, France, and the UK back to Tehran for consultations,” state television said.

The development comes a day after Russia and China failed to secure enough support at the UN Security Council for a draft resolution seeking to delay the reinstatement of sanctions on Iran for six months.
