Iran’s armed forces warned on Saturday that any attack on the country’s oil and energy infrastructure would trigger retaliatory strikes on energy facilities belonging to oil companies cooperating with the United States in the region.
The warning came after US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had destroyed military targets on Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub.
Kharg Island serves as the export terminal for about 90 percent of Iran’s oil shipments.
Trump said the United States carried out strikes on military targets on the island on Friday, threatening to hit its oil infrastructure if Iran continues to disrupt shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
