Iranian Foreign Ministry: “Traders’ Protests Began Peacefully but Turned Violent Due to Infiltrators”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that protests launched by traders in several cities at the end of December began peacefully and legitimately but escalated due to armed groups attacking security forces.

He added that the government opened communication channels with protesters from day one, and security forces handled the situation “calmly.”

Evidence suggests security personnel were fired upon from behind to increase casualties, implying official denial of responsibility.

Araghchi confirmed that the situation is under control and that internet service will gradually be restored.
